The Sorting Hat Collection by Pahlish

The Sorting Hat Collection from Pahlish is a gorgeous four piece set based on the primary colors of the houses from Hogwarts School of witchcraft and Wizardry in Harry Potter! Now if you know me, you know I absolutely love, love, love, love, love Harry Potter. So I had to have these, they are gorgeous beyond belief and I tore them out of the package and started swatching them right away. You can get all of these from Pahlish’s site right now by following the link above, and should check out their other Wizarding World polishes as well.

**Warning** I broke a nail this past weekend at work so these are swatched on my poor little nubbins and some shots will be on nail swatch forms as I felt they came out better than the shots of my nails.

Each of the swatches shown is two thin coats of polish and one top coat of Seche Vite Quick Dry Top Coat unless otherwise noted. All images are shown under natural sunlight bulbs as well. To watch the live swatch click here.

“Gryffindor”

“If you’re sure…better be, ‘GRYFFINDOR’!”

“Gryffindor” is a gorgeous rich red jelly base with gold flakes of glitter and red/purple glitter flakes with a kind of almost holographic shift throughout. This polish goes on a little chunky if you’re not careful to let the excess drip off the brush, I found it was easier to use it if instead of going for my usual drop down the center then wiped out I got the brush just smooth then wiped it out. The drop was putting too much polish down because of how smooth it went on, which I did not expect due to it having glitter, I expected it to be chunky and difficult but it wasn’t. I love this color, but can’t name it my favorite because I’m not a Gryffindor at heart, I’m definitely a Slytherin!

“Hufflepuff”

“Dedication, Patience, Loyalty…’Hufflepuff’ it is!”

“Hufflepuff” is a beautiful, not yellow more goldenrod jelly base, with gold flakies throughout and yellow and gold microglitter throughout. This goes on so smoothly and is beautiful, this is shown swatched in three coats, because two just wasn’t cutting it and my nail tip was showing. Also it’s yellow, of course it took more coats, yellow and lighter colors usually do. This shade is beautiful and shimmery and truly fits the spirit of the “Flufflepuffs”. The swatches shown are three thin coats and one coat of Seche Vite Top Coat, this is the only polish that needed the three coats.

“Ravenclaw”

“A ready mind, and quick wit, ‘Ravenclaw’!”

“Ravenclaw” is a beautiful deep, extremely deep, blue with amazing bronze flakies in it and a shimmer for days. This is my favorite color in this collection, even though I’m a natural born Slytherin and definitely loved the Gryffindor red. This polish has such versatility and shift within it, I did not want to take it off. It also almost appears to have silver flakies in it, but I took several macros and smeared it onto a piece of white paper and the flakies are just different shades of bronze for ure but give off these different glints of light. I’m living for this color, seriously.

“Slytherin”

“Cunning, Resourceful, Ambitious, you know where you belong, ‘Slytherin’!”

“Slytherin” is a beautiful bright green with tons of different shades of green flakes throughout. At first the flakes seemed silver to me, I think I was just looking for silver in everything for some reason, but they’re green for sure. This shade has such a deep amazing depth that you truly feel like you’re looking right into the soul of a Slytherin.

Overall the entire collection is amazing and the formula goes on smoothly in two coats except for Hufflepuff which required three for me, but depending on your nail may go on in only two. The layers do dry very matte though, so to really bring out the shine you’re going to want to use a glossy top coat. I really didn’t expect such amazing colors when I ordered these I was kind of expecting some simple holographic house colors. You can really tell how much thought and work went into making these perfect and I love all of them!
